CVE-2021-21556

High-privilege pre-boot code execution via stack overflow

Published Jun 14, 2021 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Stack-based buffer overflow in Dell PowerEdge BIOS before 2.11.2 allows local users to execute arbitrary code in the pre-boot environment. Dell has not published the affected firmware routine, the input that reaches it, or the operation that overruns the stack. Exploitation requires high local privileges, user interaction, and a server with NVDIMM-N installed; the flaw also causes information disclosure or an unspecified denial of service.
