Sensitive-data exposure via attacker-controlled UNC paths
Published Jan 12, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information disclosure in SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management on Windows allows remote attackers to expose sensitive data via UNC paths. The MDS server accepts custom UNC paths in its configuration and causes Windows to initiate SMB authentication to an attacker-controlled share, enabling relay. Reachability requires an inadequately protected MDS configuration, such as an unset server password, plus permissive network and OS controls; SAP reports confidentiality impact only.
