Autofill data disclosure via preview-value side channel
Published Mar 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Side-channel leakage in Google Chrome before 89.0.4389.72 allows remote attackers to infer Autofill data through a crafted HTML page. Autofill preview exposes script-readable style changes when a candidate value matches, letting a page test many replicated drop-down values and infer the previewed entry. Exploitation requires a user to visit the page and move the pointer over an Autofill suggestion; the demonstrated consequence is disclosure of saved profile values such as email addresses.
