Browser script execution through Search screen injection
Published Aug 26, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in the Movable Type Search screen allows remote attackers to execute script in a logged-in user's browser. The vendor identifies the Search screen but has not disclosed which input reaches which output sink or how output encoding fails. Successful exploitation requires a logged-in user to load the crafted content, after which attacker-controlled script runs with that browser session's access to application data and actions.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=Movable Type 7 r.4903 and earlier (Movable Type 7 Series), Movable Type 6.8.0 and earlier (Movable Type 6 Series), Movable Type Advanced 7 r.4903 and earlier (Movable Type Advanced 7 Series), Movable Type Premium 1.44 and earlier, and Movable Type Premium Advanced 1.44 and earlier
