CVE-2021-20302

Application crash via accepted non-image tiled file

Published Mar 4, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper input validation in OpenEXR before 2.5.4 allows context-dependent attackers to crash an application with a crafted non-image file. TiledInputFile accepts a single-part file marked as non-image instead of rejecting it, allowing precalculateTileInfo to perform an invalid floating-point calculation. The file must be opened by an OpenEXR consumer; the resulting floating-point exception terminates that processing application without reported data disclosure or modification.
