CVE-2021-20290

Report deletion and service interruption via certificate overtrust

Published Mar 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Incorrect authorization in Foreman Smart Proxy OpenSCAP before 0.9.1 allows local users to delete reports and interrupt service. The plugin accepted any Puppet or Katello CA-signed client certificate for server-only OpenSCAP API routes instead of restricting them to trusted Foreman hosts. A managed-client certificate is required; the authorization gap exposes limited stored resources and permits requests that can deny Foreman service.
