Remote service crash via CGI assertion failure
Published Mar 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Reachable assertion in Privoxy before 3.0.32 allows remote attackers to crash the proxy with a crafted CGI request. The ssplit() string-splitting routine asserts that the cursor has reached a NUL byte before writing the terminator; crafted CGI input violates that assumption. Unauthenticated network access to the proxy is sufficient, and successful exploitation interrupts the Privoxy service without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
