Remote service crash via leaked filter buffers
Published Mar 25, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Memory leakage in Privoxy before 3.0.29 allows remote attackers to crash the proxy through responses processed by multiple filters. In pcrs_filter_response(), the no-hit path leaves the prior filtered buffer allocated when the final filter is skipped after a PCRE error. Repeated requests that exercise multiple response filters can exhaust process memory and terminate service; no data disclosure or modification is reported.
