CVE-2021-20182Network attack vector

Cluster-admin escalation via privileged chrooted builder

Published Feb 23, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Privilege escalation in Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.4 through 4.6 allows remote authenticated users to reach cluster-admin privileges via a build container. The builder runs image builds in a highly privileged chroot instead of runc, exposing underlying node raw network and storage devices to code executing inside the container. Exploitation requires permission to run a build and code execution in that build; successful access can compromise cluster data confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
