Remote code execution via CoreText out-of-bounds read
Published Apr 2, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
CoreText out-of-bounds read in Apple iOS and iPadOS before 14.4 and macOS before 11.2 allows remote attackers to execute code. CoreText reads beyond an intended buffer because bounds checks are insufficient when it processes attacker-controlled text; Apple has not disclosed the affected parser or function. Reachability requires CoreText to process the crafted content, and execution is confined to the privileges of the consuming process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
