SYSTEM code execution via overwriteable uninstall temporary file
Published May 6, 2021 · Updated Nov 8, 2024
Executable hijacking in Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client for Windows before 4.9.06037 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The uninstaller creates a temporary executable with permissions that let a local user overwrite it before the privileged process executes it. Valid Windows credentials and a successful race against the uninstall operation are required, after which attacker-controlled code runs with SYSTEM privileges.
