Administrative reconfiguration via exposed CIP password
Published Mar 24, 2021 · Updated Nov 8, 2024
Privilege escalation in Cisco IOS with CIP enabled allows local users to obtain its password and reconfigure the device as administrators. Incorrect permissions on the show cip security CLI command expose the CIP password to a non-administrative account. CIP must be enabled, which is not the default, and authenticated CLI access is required before administrative remote configuration is possible.
