Root command execution via newline-injected Confd commands
Published Mar 24, 2021 · Updated Nov 8, 2024
Command injection in the SD-WAN CLI of Cisco IOS XE Software allows local users to execute operating-system commands as root. SD-WAN wrapper commands pass crafted arguments through execute_confd_cli.sh into Confd show mode without blocking embedded newlines, exposing vshell. Administrative authentication and Controller mode are required; autonomous-mode and standalone SD-WAN releases are not affected.
