Controller crash via malformed CAPWAP packet
Published Mar 24, 2021 · Updated Nov 8, 2024
Buffer over-read in CAPWAP processing in Cisco IOS XE Wireless Controller Software allows remote attackers to crash and reload controllers. The controller insufficiently validates malformed CAPWAP packets before reading packet data, causing an out-of-bounds read that terminates and reloads the device. No authentication or user interaction is required; an attacker with network reachability to CAPWAP can interrupt wireless-controller service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
