Root code execution or reload via stack overflow
Published Feb 4, 2021 · Updated Nov 8, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflows in Cisco Small Business RV router firmware allow remote authenticated users to execute root code or reload devices. The web-based management interface mishandles user-supplied data in crafted HTTP requests, overflowing stack buffers. Administrator credentials are required; LAN management is always reachable, while WAN management is disabled by default, and exploitation grants root execution or forces a reload.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
