Root code execution or reload via stack overflow
Published Feb 4, 2021 · Updated Nov 8, 2024
Stack-based buffer overflow in Cisco Small Business RV router firmware allows remote authenticated users to run code or reload the device. The web interface improperly validates fields in crafted HTTP requests, causing a stack-based buffer overflow; Cisco has not disclosed the affected handler. Valid administrator credentials are required; resulting code runs as root, while the denial-of-service path reloads the router.
