Arbitrary file overwrite via CLI path traversal
Published Apr 29, 2021 · Updated Nov 8, 2024
Path traversal in the CLI of Cisco Firepower Threat Defense Software allows local users to overwrite arbitrary files with crafted paths. A specific CLI command insufficiently validates a supplied file path, allowing traversal sequences to select an arbitrary overwrite target. Exploitation requires valid high-privilege device credentials; overwriting important system files can destabilize the device.
