Root code execution via malformed management input
Published Jan 13, 2021 · Updated Nov 12, 2024
Improper input validation in Cisco Small Business RV Series Router Firmware allows remote authenticated users to execute root code via crafted HTTP requests. The web-based management interface accepts malformed user-supplied values without proper validation, allowing command execution or a device reload. Valid administrator credentials are required, and the consequence is arbitrary root-level code execution or denial of service from an unexpected restart.
