Privileged file overwrite via symbolic link
Published Jul 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper link resolution in NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Windows allows local users to overwrite privileged files via symbolic links. The NVIDIA Control Panel follows an attacker-created Windows filesystem symbolic link during a privileged file write, redirecting the write to a protected target. Local unprivileged access is required; successful exploitation causes data loss or a service interrupt, with no disclosed code-execution path.
