CVE-2021-1089

Local code execution via uncontrolled DLL search

Published Jul 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Uncontrolled DLL loading in nvidia-smi in NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Windows allows local users to execute arbitrary code. The nvidia-smi utility loads a DLL through an uncontrolled search path, allowing an attacker-writable directory to supply executable code. Low-privileged local access is required; successful exploitation runs code in nvidia-smi's context and can also disclose or alter data or interrupt the service.
