Local privilege escalation via arbitrary broadcast invocation
Published Jan 14, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Elevation of privilege in Google Android Automotive OS Android 10 and Android 12 allows local users to invoke arbitrary broadcast receivers. The setLaunchIntent method in BluetoothDevicePickerPreferenceController.java forwards an attacker-influenced intent through a confused-deputy path without restricting the broadcast receiver. Exploitation requires a local application but no additional execution privileges or user interaction, enabling access to higher privileges.
