Installed-app disclosure via notification-listener side channel
Published Dec 15, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information disclosure in Android 12 Framework allows local users to determine whether an app is installed without query permissions. The setNotificationsShownFromListener method in NotificationManagerService exposes a side channel when a caller checks an installed package, bypassing package-query restrictions. A local application needs no additional execution privileges or user interaction, and the disclosed fact is limited to whether another app is present.
