CVE-2021-1024

System privilege escalation via exported PackageInstaller receivers

Published Dec 15, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Privilege escalation in the Android 12 Framework allows local users with System execution privileges to invoke PackageInstaller functionality. EventResultPersister.onEventReceived processes events delivered through exported PackageInstaller receivers, letting an app redirect an intent through the privileged component. Exploitation requires local System-level execution but no user interaction, and the resulting access is bounded to functionality exposed by those receivers.
