Installed-app disclosure via activity-launch side channel
Published Dec 15, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Information disclosure in Android 12 ActivityClientController allows local users to determine whether a target app is installed. The getLaunchedFromUid and getLaunchedFromPackage methods expose observable result differences for queried activity tokens without enforcing package-visibility permissions. Any locally installed app can probe package presence without additional privileges or user interaction, but the disclosed fact is limited to installation status.
