Local privilege escalation via unchecked APUSYS write
Published Dec 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek APUSYS on Android 10.0 through 12.0 allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges. APUSYS omits a bounds check before writing to a memory buffer, but MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function, buffer, or input path. Exploitation requires local access with System execution privileges, needs no user interaction, and crosses a privilege boundary through memory corruption.
