Local privilege escalation via missing bounds check
Published Dec 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
An out-of-bounds write in MediaTek apusys on Android 10.0, 11.0, and 12.0 allows local users to escalate privileges. The apusys component writes beyond an intended memory boundary because it omits a bounds check on an undisclosed input. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges on a supported MediaTek chipset, needs no user interaction, and permits local privilege escalation.
