Local privilege escalation via transfer size overflow
Published Apr 19, 2023 · Updated Feb 6, 2025
Integer overflow in the PowerVR kernel driver in Google Cloud Android SoC allows local users to gain elevated privileges via a crafted transfer. PVRSRVBridgeRGXTDMSubmitTransfer omits a size check, so attacker-controlled size arithmetic can wrap and drive out-of-bounds heap access. A low-privileged local user can exploit the driver without user interaction; the resulting heap access can cross kernel privilege boundaries.
