Contact disclosure via unblocked overlay windows
Published Jul 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Tapjacking in Google Android 11 Contacts allows local users to access contacts without permission through a malicious screen overlay. ContactSelectionActivity.onCreate fails to hide non-system overlay windows, allowing an overlay to misdirect taps during contact selection. A malicious local app must display the overlay and induce user interaction; successful exploitation exposes contacts without the app holding contact permission.
