Local privilege escalation via audio stream use-after-free
Published Jul 14, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use-after-free in Android 8.1, 9, 10, and 11 Media Framework allows local users to elevate privileges through the audio output path. StreamOut::prepareForWriting in StreamOut.cpp can continue using freed audio-stream state and perform an out-of-bounds write while preparing output queues. A malicious local application needs no additional execution privileges or user interaction and can execute code in a privileged process.
