Local privilege escalation via unchecked NFC status write
Published Jun 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Android 11's NFC HAL allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges in the NFC server. The phNxpNciHal_print_res_status function in phNxpNciHal.cc writes beyond a buffer because it performs no bounds check before the write. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges and no user interaction; the record does not identify the resulting privilege level.
