Local privilege escalation via oversized NFC response copy
Published Jun 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Android 11's NXP NFC HAL allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges without interaction. The phNxpNciHal_print_res_status clock-response branch copies the reported receive length into the fixed phNxpNciClock.p_rx_data buffer without capping it to the destination size. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges and an oversized NFC controller response; user interaction is not required.
