Local privilege escalation via NFC response integer overflow
Published Jun 22, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in Android 11's NXP NFC HAL allows local users with System execution privileges to elevate privileges. The phNxpNciHal_process_ext_rsp function performs integer arithmetic on extended NFC response data that can overflow and drive a write beyond the destination buffer. Exploitation requires System execution privileges but no user interaction, and successful abuse grants higher local privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
