Local privilege escalation via double-free race
Published Jun 21, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use-after-free in the ClearKey Media Framework service in Android 10 and 11 allows local users to gain additional privileges. Concurrent ClearKey license operations access an unguarded in-memory file map, allowing the same MemoryFileSystem handle to be freed twice. A malicious application with ordinary execution privileges must win the race; no user interaction is required, and successful exploitation elevates privileges locally.
