Local privilege escalation via premature admin launch
Published Apr 13, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Privilege escalation in ManagedProvisioning in Google Cloud Android 9 and 11 allows local users to retain a residual profile via a setup restart. ManagedProvisioning launches the device-policy controller before the work profile has started and unlocked, leaving profile state behind when the confused-deputy path resumes. Exploitation requires in-setup-wizard work-profile provisioning and a device restart, but no further user interaction, and grants elevated local access through the residual profile.
