Remote information disclosure via decoder use-after-free
Published Feb 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use-after-free in Android 11 Media Framework allows remote attackers to disclose process memory through crafted media requiring user interaction. MediaCodec::onMessageReceived creates a release surface without propagating the original surface's usage, allowing C2SoftHevcDec to access freed storage and write out of bounds. No execution privileges are required, and the published impact is limited to information disclosure.
