Local privilege escalation via unsynchronized InputFlinger access
Published Feb 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Use-after-free in SurfaceFlinger on Android 10 and 11 allows local users to elevate privileges through a boot-time race. The bootFinished and updateInputFlinger paths can run on different threads and access mInputFlinger without synchronization, permitting use of a stale object reference. Exploitation requires User execution privileges, needs no user interaction, and can compromise data and service operation at elevated privilege.
