CVE-2021-0316

Remote code execution via unchecked AVRCP event identifier

Published Jan 11, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in Android 8.0 through 11 allows physically proximate attackers to execute code through a crafted Bluetooth AVRCP command. The avrc_pars_vendor_cmd function in avrc_pars_tg.cc accepts a remote REGISTER_NOTIFICATION event identifier without validating it, enabling an out-of-bounds write. Bluetooth proximity is required, but authentication, additional execution privileges, and user interaction are not; successful exploitation executes code in a privileged process.
