Account access escalation via overlay-accepted taps
Published Jan 11, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Tapjacking in Android 8.0 through 11 allows local users to gain account access by inducing a user to approve a concealed prompt. GrantCredentialsPermissionActivity.onCreate accepts touches on its credential-access approval UI even when another window obscures it. A malicious app must place an overlay and persuade the device user to tap, limiting impact to permissions granted for the selected account.
