Unauthorized app removal via uninstall-dialog tapjacking
Published Feb 10, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Tapjacking in Android PackageInstaller 8.1 through 11 allows local users to uninstall an app through a deceptive overlay. UninstallerActivity.onCreate displays the uninstall confirmation without hiding non-system overlay windows, allowing an overlay to misdirect the confirming tap. A malicious local app must draw the overlay and obtain user interaction; successful exploitation removes the chosen app without informed consent.
