Local privilege escalation via inherited installer permissions
Published Jun 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Insecure inherited permissions in the Intel VTune Profiler installer before 2021.1.1 allow local users to escalate privileges. The installer inherits unsafe access permissions for installed resources, but Intel has not identified the affected resource or disclosed how that access is abused. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and user interaction, and successful abuse grants higher privileges on the host.
