CVE-2020-9850Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote code execution via JIT side-effect confusion

Published Jun 9, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Type confusion in Apple WebKit across Safari and affected client platforms allows remote attackers to execute code via crafted web content. The DFG JIT wrongly treats JavaScript's in operator as side-effect free, while an embedded-PDF callback mutates state and creates arbitrary memory read and write primitives. Exploitation requires processing attacker-controlled web content; the standalone flaw yields WebKit code execution, while sandbox escape requires additional vulnerabilities.
