Root command execution via privileged caller-name spoofing
Published Mar 23, 2020 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Privilege escalation in LG webOS TV Emulator 5.0.0-88 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands as root via crafted files. The public luna-send-pub client uses a privileged com.webos caller name, causing the root-run Downloadmanager to accept paths that overwrite ls-hubd.conf and redirect its ExecPrefix to an attacker-controlled executable. An unprivileged emulator shell or application service must invoke the local client, supply both files, and restart the emulator before the Luna hub runs the replacement as root.
