Root access via passwordless SSH account
Published Apr 6, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Missing authentication in S. Siedle & Soehne SG 150-0 Smart Gateway before 1.2.4 allows remote attackers to access its ftp SSH account. The firmware leaves the ftp system account without a password, enabling password assignment over SSH and tunneling to the internal MySQL service. Network access is required; the demonstrated chain uses a static database root password to create a web administrator who can reconfigure connected devices and open doors.
