CVE-2020-9470Public exploit

Local root execution via writable session cookies

Published Mar 7, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Local privilege escalation in Wing FTP Server 6.2.5 allows local users to execute Lua commands as root through a stolen admin session. The server writes Lua session artifacts named for cookie values into session and session_admin with world-readable and world-writable permissions. Exploitation requires an active administrative session; a local user can rewrite its IP binding, reuse the cookie, and reach the root-running Lua interpreter.
