Administrator account creation via unprotected form import
Published Mar 6, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Missing authorization in RegistrationMagic 4.6.0.3 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to create WordPress administrator accounts. Unprotected AJAX actions import a crafted form, alter form-expiration or default-form settings, and map submitted values to wp_user_level and wp_capabilities metadata. Subscriber-level access is required; after the imported form is activated and submitted, a new account receives administrator privileges.
