CVE-2020-9449Network attack vector

Privilege escalation via predictable cookie salt

Published Feb 28, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

BlaB! AX and BlaB! WS version 19.11 allow remote authenticated users to escalate privileges by forging session cookies. The session mechanism derives its cookie salt from insufficiently random values, allowing a guest or user holding a valid session cookie to retrieve the salt and construct a cookie for an arbitrary user or administrator. Exploitation requires an existing guest or user session and can grant elevated account access; the record does not report direct service interruption.
