SYSTEM escalation via unqualified DLL search
Published Mar 18, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
DLL hijacking in the MPS Agent in Zoho ManageEngine Endpoint Central MSP before 10.0.486 allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The dcinventory.exe and dcconfig.exe programs request the absent CSUNSAPI.dll without a full path, allowing a planted namesake to load. Exploitation requires a normal-user-writable directory in the DLL search order and execution of an affected program; injected code runs as SYSTEM.
