CVE-2020-9292

Local privilege escalation via unquoted service path

Published Jun 4, 2020 · Updated Oct 25, 2024

Unquoted service path in Fortinet FortiSIEM Windows Agent 3.1.2 allows local users to gain elevated privileges. The AoWinAgt service registers its executable path without quotes, letting Windows resolve a planted executable from an earlier path segment. Exploitation requires local filesystem access to place that executable, after which a privileged service start runs attacker-controlled code.
