Virus-detection bypass via manipulated ZIP compression field
Published Feb 18, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Virus-detection bypass in ESET Archive Support Module before 1296 allows context-dependent attackers to conceal content in crafted ZIP archives. The archive parser accepts a manipulated Compression Information field that prevents antivirus inspection while the archive remains accessible to an end user. Successful exploitation requires the archive to reach an ESET scanning path and then be opened or processed elsewhere, allowing concealed content to pass with a clean rating.
