Unauthenticated command execution via unsanitized NTP server
Published Feb 17, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
OS command injection in Iteris Vantage Velocity Field Unit 2.3.1, 2.4.2, and 3.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands. The /cgi-bin/timeconfig.py handler passes the htmlNtpServer value from crafted HTTP requests to a shell without rejecting command metacharacters. Network access to the unauthenticated time-configuration endpoint is sufficient for device takeover, and observed attacks installed Satori botnet malware.
